Photos: Cross River Police arrests man who poisoned food in a restaurant that left 2 dead and over 46 hospitalized

The Cross River State Police command has arrested one Mr. Paul Nchui who allegedly poisoned food in a restaurant that has left 2 people dead and over 46 hospitalized in Oboso community of Mbube in Ogoja local government area of the state.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo who confirmed the arrest said that the 35 year-old suspect from Oboso, the affected community in Ogoja Local Government area of the state has confessed to the crime.

No fewer than 46 people are currently hospitalized after eating the poisoned food. The food vendor and her husband, Mr. Edidi died immediately after eating food from their restaurant on Friday, March 24th.

The incident raised serious tension in the state as many suspected that it was an outbreak of Ebola, Lassa or some strange ailment. Confirming the incident, Health Commissioner, Dr. Inyang Asibong said all the affected cases are from a food vendor in Oboso and was actually food poisoning.

"She (the food vendor) and her husband died on Friday following onset of symptoms" Dr. Inyang said, adding that 40 people are currently admitted in General Hospital, Ogoja, while 4 in a private hospital. A statement issued by the police said: 

 "Mr. Paul Nchui, a suspect who poisoned a restaurant of a food vendor in Oboso community in Ogoja has been arrested. The suspect is in our custody and has confessed to the crime. He will soon be charged to court".

The reason for the suspect’s action was not confirmed by the Police at news time but it is speculated in the state that the suspect has confessed that he poisoned the restaurant to punish the community for the treatment meted on him.

12 girls go missing in the Washington D.C area almost at the same time (photo)

12 girls, 10 blacks and 2 Hispanics are missing and D.C police is saying there is no crime involved, that the girls are all runaways. Wonder if they would say that if they were all white...read the report after the cut...

The Washington D.C. girls who have gone missing are not crime victims ... they've just fled their homes, according to Washington D.C. officials.

There's been a call for an investigation into the disappearances, but a police spokesperson says the numbers are not alarming ... they're in line with missing persons stats.

There are currently 38 open cases of missing persons in D.C.  We did some checking ... 12 disappeared in the last 5 months.  Nine of the girls are 18 or under. Ten are black and 2 Hispanic.

A police spokesperson says they believe all are runaways based on the circumstances of their disappearance, however, they say they cannot be certain.

The police and Mayor's office tell TMZ, they handle thousands of missing persons cases every year, and virtually everyone is located.

The PD says they have aggressively been using social media to help find missing persons, but they are not alarmed by the numbers, which they say have actually gone down.  

There has been a battle cry on social media for a harder look at the girls who have disappeared recently.

We spoke with police Chief Peter Newsham who says with almost every case, those missing have a history of leaving home. He says the number missing is similar to years before, it's just been brought to the light with the use of social media and other platforms to help locate missing people.

Newsham says his department's goal is to get to the root of the problem to determine just what causes these kids to leave their homes.

"There is this road, we use to follow at the back of gwarinpa, once they locked galadima gate by 8pm,so I follow the road.

Next thing, some of those hoodlums around the area rushed out n blocked my path. While still arguing with them to let me drive through , the police men arrived, stating that they were the one that told them to block d road,

No wahala then, make I turn back begin go back, one of them wanted to enter my car, that I much follow them to station, they block the road, calling me armed robber, start dragging the car key with me, before l cld argue, one slapped me, while still arguing why he slapped me, others joined beating me with their gun but. 

Even as I was still pleading with them, one even went as far as cocking him gun to shoot me, stating that I was an armed robber. All these person, I kept on advise was exactly is my crime to warrant these beatings. 

They, finally dragged me into their hilux in the process, lost my wrist watch and one of them drove to my car to their gwarinpa Divisional police station in 3rd avenue, I was in the station until after 1am,be for they released me, but they took my car papers and l also discovered that the little money, I had in the car has also disappeared, they held on to my car, insisting that I should come back to the police station withbthe originals of d car papers today, with the customs papers by 2pm today.

Daughter accuses Adamawa traditional ruler of attempted ritual murder, bribing police commissioner .

Fadimatu Umar, daughter of the district head of Umar Ardo in Yola, Adamawa State, has claimed that her father bribed the Police Commissioner in charge of Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) in Abuja to cover up a case of an attempt to kill her.

She alleged that her father planned to use her corpse for a ritual. Ms. Umar claimed that her siblings - Murtala, Aisha, Abubakar and Aliyu - were hired by her father to carry out the murder. .

Her siblings, she told SaharaReporters, attacked her, leaving her with a badly damaged arm, which may have to be amputated.

The victim, 28, disclosed that less than a year ago, her stepmother, Bintu, died under mysterious circumstances, which she alleged was the handiwork of her father. The woman's death, Ms. Umar added, convinced her that she would be the next target. .

After hearing noises coming from the front gate of her home, Ms. Umar jumped through her window in fear of her life. She alleged that she was pursued by her siblings until they caught up with her in front of the National Identity Card Management Office. .

She also disclosed that her case with the family would be brought to court in Adamawa State on April 6, but she has been warned not to appear in court because she would be abducted.

A suspected Boko Haram kingpin, Adenoyi Abdulsalam, has been arrested in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state. An Ak-47 rifle was recovered from the suspect who is presently undergoing investigation. .

Abdulsalam was in the final stages of kidnapping some high-level targets in Ekiti to raise funds and terrorise communities in the state. Another Boko Haram suspect, Usman Rawa, 29, a.k.a Mr X, was also arrested in Lafia, Nasarawa, on March 17.
