Ooni of Ife sympathizes with Oba of Lagos, denies involvement in the fire incident at his palace

Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has sent his heartfelt messages to the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Aremu Akilu over the fire outbreak at his palace in Lagos Island yesterday.
Although, Nigerians have been claiming that the fire incident that affected the main sections of the Lagos palace, was a result of Oba Rilwan snubbing the Ooni of Ife at a public function, a week ago.
But in a brief chat with Premium Times, the spokesperson of the Ooni’s palace, Moses Olafare said the Ife monarch is sad over the fire outbreak and that the incident has nothing to do with the Ooni of Ife snub.
'We are not happy over the fact that the palace of Lagos king got burnt, we can only sympathize with the palace on the development,' he said.
Reacting to the widely speculated claims, he said:
'People are entitled to their own views. But what people say doesn’t mean that is the position of the palace. What happened is mere coincidence and should not be traced to the incident in Lagos, we send our sympathies,' he added.

Photo: India Narcotics Control Bureau arrest Nigerian man trying to smuggle 200grams of cocaine

Officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau have arrested a 35-year-old Nigerian national while he was allegedly trying to smuggle 200 grams of cocaine in the Rajadhani express from New Delhi to Bengaluru on Thursday, April 27.
Based on a tip-off, a team of officials boarded the train after it reached Secunderabad and caught Larry 'Frank' Onyedikachi.

The cost of the seized drugs in the international market is estimated to be around 1 crore, a senior official said.
Inquiries revealed that Larry was working as a courier in the drug racket and collected the contraband from his contact in Delhi and travelling to Bengaluru to hand it over to his associate.
The officials are further investigating to ascertain the details of his inter-State contacts.
Larry had come to India on a business visa in 2012 but overstayed even after his visa expired. He continued to live in Chander Vihar in New Delhi and had been carrying forged travel documents, the official added.

Ex-pastor bags 3-6 years in prison for sexually assaulting and impregnating a teen.

Jacob Malone, a former pastor at Calvary Fellowship, a nondenominational church in Downingtown, has been jailed for three-six years in prison for sexually assaulting and impregnating one of his young parishioners.
The 35-year-old American from Exton who was arrested in January 2016, was sentenced Friday after entering guilty pleas to institutional sex assault, corruption of minors and child endangerment, NY Daily reported.
The court heard that he began to sexually assault the girl in the fall of 2014, impregnated her when she was in her late teens and she gave birth a year ago to their daughter.
She, however, maintained that the former pastor took advantage of her 'mentally, physically, spiritually.'
Admitting to the crime,  Malone told the court that he gave the girl alcohol but said the sexual encounters were consensual denying that he raped her. But he apologized, saying his 'failures and weaknesses' had hurt her, her family and his family. 'She admired me and trusted me, and I betrayed that,' he added.
In a statement, his defense attorney Evan Kelly said that he 'has always been adamant' he did not rape the teenager but has admitted to other crimes. 'And for that, he is embarrassed, ashamed and truly remorseful,' Kelly said.
Although, prosecutors had reached an earlier plea deal to hand him a two-year minimum jail term, but Judge Jacqueline Cody rejected that deal a month ago and slammed him with three-six years jail terms.
She said the case was 'one of the times when the court system fails' and said even with the stiffer sentence in the new plea agreement Malone would be 'serving a sentence much lighter than the crime deserves.'
Malone who will get credit for the more than one year he has served since his arrest in January 2016 will sign the sex offender register for 15 years.
